Code of Conduct

Show respect to your instructors and training partners:

Students are asked to call the instructors “Coach.” Call other students by their name, or nickname if they prefer.  Please be considerate other’s space while training.  Show up to class on time.

 Kids Class:

No gum, candy, or drinks on the mats. Children must sit with their legs crossed, raise their hand to be noticed, and do not leave the mat area without the instructor’s permission. Wear shoes into the school and into the restrooms.  Parents, please do not coach or instruct your child on what to do while training.

Hygiene:

Shower regularly and use deodorant. Keep fingers and toe nails short and clean to prevent injury to yourself and others. Wear clean, dry clothes to each class and a towel to wipe your sweat.  If you are doubling up on classes please change into a clean dry shirt. Care for your equipment by wiping it down after use.

 Mat Cleanliness:

Do not walk on the mat with your shoes, so that we can prevent the spread of germs. Do not walk outside with bare feet. If you have to go outside, wear sandals or shoes. Do not enter restrooms without shoes.

 Illnesses:

Do not attend class if you are sick, or have a skin disease. You will not be allowed to train.

 Sparring:

As a courtesy to our members and their safety, we require at minimum one month of membership at the Thai Boxing Institute if you would like to spar, regardless of prior Muay Thai experience.  Always touch your sparring partner’s gloves before and after a sparring session. Do not seek to harm fellow students physically by going beyond controlled, playful sparring and never use elbows.  You must train in a manner that won’t endanger other’s health, but with a controlled intensity for you and your partner to improve your skills, conditioning, and technique.

 Coaching:

Parents, please do not coach or instruct your child on what to do while training.  Likewise, members please refrain from coaching fellows students and please ask a coach for assistance.

 Cell Phones:

If your cell phone rings during class, please silence it.

 Language:

Do not use any profanity.

Dress Code:

No shirtless training is allowed and if you need to change please use the dressing room or restroom.

Muay Thai Classes require a clean dry t-shirt as well as clean dry Muay Thai shorts. Never, under any circumstance should a member be shirtless.

  Gym:

Pick up after yourself and don’t leave your belongings. We are not responsible for them.

Student Drop off/Pickup:

Do not drop off your child no earlier than 30 minutes prior to their class and pick up your child no later than 15 minutes after class ends.

Have Fun:

Laugh often, smile, enjoy each other’s company and don’t be so serious.  You’re here training at the Thai Boxing Institute of Mar Vista, CA, not fighting for a Lumpinee Stadium title.  Calm yourself and have some fun. 🙂
