the last bit of parrying that we have been focusing on the last few weeks, circling back around to a simple rear (right hand) hand palming/parry. This style of defense against left hand attacks relies using the rear palm in different manners and sometimes involved just parrying the attack in different directions.

1. defending the jab using the right hand palm catch. as they throw their jab i ‘catch’ it using the rear hand palm. sometimes even using the heel of the palm to deflect it depending on how hard they throw the jab. you can use the same style of defense with a simultaneous jab counter off of their jab too.

my criticism of this technique though is that it removes your rear hand guard towards the middle of your face to replace a target.

a novice or lazy fighter would be complacent about dropping their guard thus leaving them open to a left side attack such has a hook or worst case scenario a left head kick. I believe if you are diligent about keeping a tight rear guard this is a coo and easy counter. i would possibly follow up the attack with a hard right low kick.

2. right hand palm over cross review. easy and fun to do.

3. palm the jab down and counter with the left elbow, you can use the right hand to dragging them off balance and into the strike too.

4. palm over cross variation but instead of a cross you throw a right elbow. and that basically covers a plethora of different styles of parrying with different counters from different stances using your various muay thai weapons 🙂
