We will be closed for Labor Day weekend from Saturday, August 31st to Monday, September 2nd. The regular schedule will resume on Tuesday, September 3rd.

Advanced Muay Thai Cancelled for Two Months on Wednesdays

Due to scheduling difficulties, Advanced Muay Thai will only be held once a week on Mondays at 6 PM. We will keep everyone updated on when this changes.

MDL Recap

I had an absolutely great time this weekend taking four of our athletes (three debutants and one returning) to the first-ever MDL’s in LA.

It is such an endearing feeling to watch all the anxiousness, questions, pacing, sizing up, and the inevitable gassing from nerves. It reminds me of when my coach used to tell me: “No problem—Easy!” I used to think, “What the hell is he talking about? I’m freaking out right now!”

I really appreciate the enthusiasm everyone had, and the attempts at technique really showed. I thought everyone did really well.

Lastly, I want to give David Matthews a shout-out. He showed tremendous heart by taking a second match at the end of the event. Right after he finished his match, completely gassed and on the verge of throwing up, he was asked to do another match with someone much bigger. He thought for a split second and said, “Fuck it, let’s go. I’m here to get better; this will get me there.” That’s exactly what I’m talking about—actions speak louder than words.

Everyone was a pleasure to deal with, and the event ran very well. I thought the MDL provided a safe, organized, and structured event. Highly recommend it for beginners and skilled boxers alike. The next one in LA is in October, I believe.

20 Years of Doing Muay Thai

I recently posted a story on Instagram asking about any good TV shows to watch (I just recently watched all of The Wire and Sopranos), and someone jokingly commented, “Where have you been in the last 20 years?” I replied, “Muay Thai.”

I literally have eaten, slept, and done Muay Thai for the last 20 years, and only now have I finally started “slowing down.” Much of this has to do with getting a little older, some injuries, and finding an appropriate work/life balance.

Want to read a little more about it? Check this blog post here: https://thaiboxinginstitute.net/2024/08/26/20-year-muay-thai-anniversary/

To celebrate this, it would be fun for me to spar 20 (twenty) 2-minute rounds with 20 different members. I would like to film and document it for study and content purposes, so you would have to be okay with that. I’ll have a sign-up sheet on the back whiteboard if you are interested.

We will draw names every round so the order is randomized. Afterward, we can all have dinner at the German spot next door. If you are interested, let me know. Thanks!

That will be on Tuesday, September 10th!
